And what if we spiced things up a bit? Why not add some spices like cinnamon or ginger, or swap out the butter for coconut oil to create an even more aromatic crumble? Or perhaps toss in some chocolate chunks for the true foodies? And for those who love culinary adventures, a hint of honey or a drizzle of caramel on top is pure bliss.
Preparation: 10 minutes | Maceration: 45 minutes | Cooking: 30 to 40 minutes depending on the thickness of the mould
Ingredients:
- 4-5 pears
- 2 packets vanilla sugar
- 150g flour
- 80g soft butter
- 80g sugar
- 4-5 tablespoons rum
Pear and rum crumble preparation:
1/ Peel, core and chop the pears.
2/ Place them in a bowl, sprinkle with vanilla sugar and drizzle with a little rum. Leave to macerate for 45 minutes.
3/ Line the bottom of a suitable tin (a casserole dish or cake tin) with the buttered pear pieces and bake at 180°C for 15 to 20 minutes, until the pears have cooked and the juice has reduced.
4/ Pour the flour, caster sugar and soft butter cut into pieces into a bowl and mix with your fingers until you have a sandy dough (you can also use a food processor to mix the dough, in which case add all the ingredients and blend until smooth).
5/ After 15-20 minutes, remove the dish from the oven and cover with the crumble mixture for about 15 minutes, or until golden brown.
6/ Serve warm with a scoop of ice cream 😉
